The Botswana Consumer Fair will open its doors to the public on Monday 26th August to Sunday 1st September 2024, which marks the Fair’s 17th Edition.
The theme of this year’s Consumer Fair, “Building a Sustainable Future: Balancing Economic Growth and Environmental Protection,” The theme focuses on restoring and promoting sustainable development in alignment with environment conservation and protection whilst Exhibitors are encouraged to use eco-friendly products and services during the fair.
The tagline is, “Engage, Shop, and Showcase,” – it summarizes all activities of the fair as follows: Engage – an opportunity for meaningful engagements between exhibitors, business community, families to foster collaborations. Shop – an act of shopping products and services at the Fair whilst promoting economic growth and prosperity.
The Botswana Consumer Fair has positioned itself as the Leading and Largest Premier Fair in the calendar of events in Botswana. This is an all-inclusive event to create an interactive forum between exhibitors/manufacturers/traders and visitors to provide opportunities to diversify the economy. The Fair also promotes trade between local and foreign exhibitors,” said Gorata Gabaraane, Chief Executive Officer for Fairground Holdings.
She said, “Local companies also have a ready platform for brand activation where consumers can activate, interact with different products and service suppliers. The organisers of the event have tapped into the value of Traders Hub / SMME’s such as Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA); Local Enterprise Authority (LEA); Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Debswana and a representation of sponsored businesses by the different District Councils in Botswana.”
In 2023 Fairground Holdings hosted over 70 businesses participating under the Traders Hub. This year it has attracted over 550 Exhibitors with over 28 different sectors participating from 15 foreign countries: Ireland, Lesotho, Zambia, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Japan, India, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe).
In 2023, foot traffic was recorded at 36,000. The Official Opening Ceremony will take place on Tuesday 27th August 2024 at 10h00-12h00 and the Guest of Honour will be Andrew Maatla Motsomi, the Managing Director of Debswana Diamond Company.
A Tour of Stall follows immediately at the end of the Opening Ceremony with the Prize Awarding Ceremony scheduled to take place on Thursday 29th August 2024 at 18h30-21h40 and the Guest of Honour will be Ms Olebile Makhupe, the Managing Director of Bank Gaborone.
“The Botswana Consumer Fair continues to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country through supporting significant sectors of the SMMEs during the lifecycle of the event,” said Gabaraane.
She said, “The Botswana Consumer Fair creates employment by engaging over 400 temporary employees from companies such as Alpha Events, Trimline Projects, Webtickets, Gilty Security, Command Security, Seven days Security, Richman, Excellent Printers, Ben Dan Photography, Prime Worx and Recyco Cleaning Services who are awarded work/tenders as part of fulfilling the core services and products required for the Fair. c) The fair presents an opportunity to suppliers, transport industry, and accommodation facilities to generate revenue.
