The National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB), in their effort to promote, support and develop the creative sector have embarked on a countrywide Road Show under the theme “Creative Kgotlas.”
This roadshow is set to traverse the length and breadth of the country from 16th September 2024 to 24 September 2024. This tour aims to introduce the Council and its mandate, engage with stakeholders on ways to promote the rich and diverse tapestry of Botswana’s artistic heritage and contemporary talent.
The road show is a pivotal initiative for the NACB, serving as a vital bridge between the artistic community and the public. By traveling to various towns and villages, the roadshow ensures that the arts are not confined to major urban areas but are accessible to all citizens, regardless of their location.
Moreover, it promotes community engagement, nurtures emerging talent and the commercial mindset of artists, and strengthens the nation’s cultural identity, making the arts an integral part of everyday life for many more people.
The road show commenced with an interactive session in Francistown, Adansonia Hotel, where various stakeholders such as MYSC, CIPA, COSBOTS, HRDC and National Mindset Change, took to the podium with key presentations about efforts from different organisations’ contribution to the creative industry.
When opening the session, NACB’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Shombi Ellis, gave an overview of the Council, its mandate and strategic objectives. “This road show is a testament of our commitment to promote, develop and protect the Arts and Culture Sector of Botswana.”
She said, “By bringing the arts directly to the people, we hope to ignite new passions, inspire future generations, and strengthen our nation’s cultural fabric. We are proud to showcase the extraordinary talent that exists across our country and to engage with audiences in meaningful ways.”
The road show will journey through from Francistown to Selibe Phikwe on the 19th & 20th September at The Grand Patel Hotel, Palapye on the 23rd and 24th September at Cresta Botsalo and many other areas to be communicated.
