As part of 20 years anniversary, Orange Botswana has intensified its outreach to underserved communities through a robust network rollout exercise to remote areas across the country. During the first half of 2018, the company enhanced its network and added more services in twenty six (26) rural areas spread across the country, including Zoroga, Mabeleapodi, Mabesekwa, Khwee, Lekgolobotlo, Mokoboxane, Makobo, New Xade, Maape and Pilikwe to mention a few.
“We acknowledge that mobile technology is an important tool for inclusion and development. This exercise therefore focuses on refining our network coverage and introducing new products and services as a way to improve access to affordable communication, financial inclusion and most importantly digital inclusion for rural dwellers”, says Orange Botswana Public Relations Manager, Boga Chilinde-Masebu. “We value access to communication as a fundamental, right that’s why we prioritise on affordability. We extend affordable solutions for voice, internet and SMS to the villages, allowing customers to get more for less. It has been incredibly exciting to see the overwhelming response from the villagers, especially towards Orange Money. The massive uptake of Orange Money services in these areas suggests that there is an urgent need for comprehensive financial inclusion”.
With the introduction of new products and services, twenty six (26) service points have been established for distribution resulting in employment opportunities for the villagers. Currently there are fifteen (15) partners and over 14 000 hawkers benefiting from the distribution of Orange services and products nationwide.
Further outreach activities are expected during the second half of 2018.
