The Toyota Gazoo Racing 1000 Desert Race 2023, motorsport event scheduled from the 23rd-25th June 2023 25 will create economic opportuutnities for Masimo owners selling packages to host guests in temporary campgrounds officials revealed.

Camping will be done in collaboration with tour operators.in Jwaneng as the start off and finish off point race officials have revealed.

“Services procured from 100% citizen owned companies for environment, waste receivers, spectator services,” said Philda Nani Kereng, Minister of Environment & Tourism.

She said, “A 100% citizen owned company; Yelloegg has been engaged for Merchandise production.”

The 2019 event in Selebi Phikwe recorded an impressive attendance. According to official estimates, in 2019, the sum of P11, 830, 061.94.00 had accrued to the 277 surveyed businesses during the race, an increase of over hundred percent business (109.6%) as compared to a time when there is no race.

Retail Sector, accommodation transport and informal sector have reportedly been involved in Desert Race preparations. Tour Operator have partnered with Masimo and Farm owners, to alleviate the crises created by overbooked hotels and bed and breakfasts.

Casual Labourers have benefitted from jobs like litter picking. There is expected to be an increase in business revenue to retailers during weekend of the event. Kereng, said “Mabutsane District and Jwaneng issuing trade licenses for the sale of amongst others; food and firewood.

A total of 300 licenses to be issued to local communities and other businesses.” A local manufactured vehicle sand master will be showcased which promotes the Government of Botswana RESET AGENDA on innovation; vehicle still under production to be used in 2024.

Local Small Medium Micro Enterprises will showcase their products and services from amongst community members. The Toyota Gazoo Racing is a motorsport event for both automobiles and motorbikes. The event is accredited to the Dakar Rally.

Jwaneng was selected as the most suitable after the event was held in Selebi-Phikwe in 2019 for one year and relocated due to the unfavourable terrain.

The event is coordinated by Botswana Tourism Organisation in partnership with the South African Rally Raid Championship, who are the Event Rights Owners.
