Orange Botswana, through the Orange Foundation announced its collaboration and sponsorship of Alliance Française’s Fête de la Musique (World Music Day).
The music festival, featuring a diverse line-up of Batswana and international artists, is set to captivate audiences at the Alliance Française offices in Gaborone on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.
Fête de la Musique, an annual event orchestrated by the Alliance Française, has been granted a sponsorship of 2,500.00 Euros, slightly over P36,000 (Thirty-Six Thousand Pula) by the Orange Foundation to foster greater cultural enrichment and community engagement.
Goitseone Seven, Orange Botswana CSR Coordinator, said “The Fête de la Musique brings us the gift of harmony, rhythm, and the universal language that is music. It is a day that transcends boundaries The esteemed and community engagement, and we look forward to a harmonious collaboration with the Alliance Française.
She said, “This sponsorship underscores our enthusiasm for the arts, music, and culture that this festival brings to our community. annual celebration reminds us that in music, we find a common ground where our hearts can beat as one, regardless of our backgrounds.”
The Fête de la Musique (World Music Day) originated in 1982 when the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, and the director of music and dance, Maurice Fleuret, recognized that a significant portion of the French population played musical instruments, yet musical events were primarily organized for a minority. As a result, Fête de la Musique was conceived to provide a platform for a broader population of musicians to express themselves and gain recognition.
The inaugural Fête de la Musique was celebrated in Paris in 1982, and since then, the festival has grown into an international phenomenon, observed simultaneously on the same day in over 700 cities across 120 countries, including Gaborone.
