The Ministry of Health and Wellness(MOHW) has revealed a local lab will start testing for coronavirus disease by the 16th March 2020 with complaints emerging that the practice of employing the National Institute of Communicable Diseases(NICD) in South Africa for testing was affecting country response.
Botswana will however continue procuring personal protective equipment for Coronavirus from China.
“There is active case management ongoing with training of stakeholders and screening at ports of entry,” said Dr Goabaone Rankgaone-Pono, Public Health Specialist at the Ministry of Health and Wellness(MOHW.
5 new countries namely Brunei Darussalam, Mongolia, Cyprus, Guernsey and Panama have reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours with the World Health Organization(WHO) championing measures that restrict movement of people during the outbreak.
Officials say globally there are 113 707 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 4125 cases emerging in the last 24 hours. WHO revealed that 4012 deaths have occurred as a result of the virus.
China is at the centre of the epidemic with 80 924 confirmed cases of corona virus and 3 140 deaths. Outside of China there are 32 778 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 109 countries reporting confirmed cases of the disease and 872 people dying as a result of infection.
