The grandson of long time influential ruling party treasurer Satar Dada has irked some of his employees after testing positive for covid-19 and returning to work relatively early with fears rampant that he is possibly not adhering to stipulated health protocols because of his political connections.
These fears were dismissed as inaccurate by family patriarch on sidelines of parliament. His grandson, Mohammed Dada who returned to work on Friday runs the Molapo Motors business.
“As soon as he discovered he was positive he took leave of work and they sanitized the venue. It was all according to the rules,” said Satar Dada, whilst attending National Assembly discussions in Fairgrounds.
According to fearful employees, Molapo Motors was only closed for a day on the 28th August 2020 and employees returned to work immediately thereafter. This was despite the fact they had not received their covid-19 results and regularly interacted with both clients and employees despite not knowing their status. The possibility for transmission was therefore extremely high for employees.
The Testing of employees was done on the 4th September 2020 and the results were released on the 11th September 2020. This means if any of the other employees tested positive they would have affected those they came into contact with. There was no quarantine of employees until release of results.
Employees believe this casual approach to health protocols put them and their families at risk of covid-19 infection and that any other person who had behaved in such a manner would have been sanctioned.
But health officials are very quick to stress that preferential treatment will not be accorded to anybody and that covid-19 transgressions should be reported to the police. It was however stressed that efforts are being implemented to avoid unnecessary lockdowns or closure of businesses.
“There is a health protocol to be followed on disinfection and cleaning of places to eliminate unnecessary closures. We have also extended self isolation beyond Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital(KMTH) to individual homes. The key thing is that people can now self isolate,” said Dr Edwin Gorataone Dikoloti, Minister of Health and Wellness.
He said, “We are also trying to develop different technologies to help us with monitoring. However, if there is breakage of the law the Police must take action. I am not aware of specific incident.”
