The Ministry of Health and Wellness has revealed that 15 of the 55 medical laboratory scientists who graduated from the University of Botswana(UB) were offered permanent employment while the remaining 40 were employed temporarily.
“12 Medical Laboratory Technicians graduated from the Institute of Health Sciences in 2019. A total of 7 were offered permanent employment: leaving a balance of 5 who have been offered temporary employment,” said Dr Edwin Dikoloti, Minister of Health and Wellness.
He said, “The decision to recruit either Medical Laboratory Scientists from UB or Medical Laboratory Technicians from IHS is based on the availability of relevant posts/vacancies and no preferential treatment is given to any institution.”
According to officials, as of August 2020 30 out of the 158 Medical Laboratory Scientists are expatriates and 40 out of the 321 Medical laboratory technicians are expatriates.
