The relatively young BaNgwaketse Paramount Chief Kgosi Malope II is scheduled to marry Masitsibi Motlomelwa in what is expected to be a momentous occasion for one of Botswana’s biggest tribes. Malope who is credited with restarting Mephato and other cultural events like Mmakgodumo Cultural Festival now referred to as Dikgafela has been a central figure amongst his people.

He is currently spearheading the Mmalekwa Cemetary Project where old missionaries/soldiers of the 1890-1903 Anglo-Boer war are buried amidst plans to build a state of the art museum. The first leg of traditional ceremony for the wedding will be in Maseru, Lesotho on the 23rd September 2022.

 On the 5th October Malope will celebrate his 10 year anniversary celebrations at the main kgotla with the wedding set to take place at Royal kgotla on the 7th Octiober 2022, at Mmakgodumo Gardens. Dowry has been set at 23 cows, at P3500 per cow. Dowry will be paid in cash. 

 Kgosi’s uncles have each pledged a cow towards the dowry and his fathers Mophato (Malau) has pledged P4000 per person’. The 10 year anniversary to coincide with the wedding will be a culmination of a series of events with Bangwaketse urged to pledge cash or kind.
