The Local Enterprise Authority(LEA) launched the Kulta Incubation Centre near the station area, adjacent to the railway line will house 12 businesses focused on toilet paper manufacturing, maize flakes manufacturing, biscuit and bread making, sunflower oil extraction, detergent liquid making, packaging solutions(granules and powder), tomato ketchup, wire nail making, socks knitting, soya milk extraction, potato wafers making and ice cream manufacturing.
“The event is one among others which is a testament of the Local Enterprise Authority(LEA) commitment to promote, facilitate and nurture SMME development. The Kulta Incubation centre is an innovation tool for self-employment which will contribute towards the national agenda for stimulating innovation and sustainable economic growth,” said Biggie Butale, Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.
He said, “The development is indeed a milestone in the advancement of entrepreneurship in Botswana, because any development of an entrepreneur , a life is changed. This is so because entrepreneurs are primary sources of job creation, prosperity and main contributors to economic development.”
During the incubation period trainees benefit from practical production skills for business management training such as sales and marketing and enterprenurship development training. Trainees were also trained on health and safety, manufacturing and production procedures as well as machinery maintenance.
“It has not been an easy journey starting this project until where it is today. As expected with the implementation of any project, we met challenges along the way but through the resilience and focus of the LEA team and stakeholders, we managed to put together all components of the project which included the refurbishment of the facility to make it a decent incubation centre, sourcing of machinery, raw materials and other inputs needed for production,” said Oagile Regoeng, Acting Board Chairman for Local Enterpreneurship Authority(LEA).
