Orange Botswana has signed a sponsorship agreement with Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) for inaugural FNBB Golden Grand Prix. The sponsorship of P600,000.00, will see the delivery of the 2023 edition of the acclaimed and highly anticipated FNBB Golden Grand Prix event.

“We are excited to be part of this prestigious event. It stands to raise the Botswana flag higher both literally and figuratively, providing an opportunity for local businesses to benefit from athletes and spectators making their way to Botswana, and reviving sports tourism in Botswana,” said Yves Famien, Orange Botswana Chief Marketing Officer.

He said, “Our vision is to cultivate sporting talent further towards the development and commercialisation of sports in Botswana. Our decision to sponsor the FNBB Golden Grand Prix is yet another testament to this.”

Botswana has been given the opportunity by the World Athletics to host the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour, which is officially part of the World Athletics calendar. The athletics event is part of an annual series of independent track and field athletic competitions.

The Botswana Golden Grand Prix is one of the only two World Continental Tour Gold Track and Field competitions hosted in Africa annually, and the only one in Southern Africa with a Gold status.

This event is a major attraction for international professional athletes and spectators and will for the first time hosted by Botswana for 3 years, from 2023 to 2025.

The Botswana Golden Grand Prix will take place on the 29th of April 2023 at the National Stadium in Gaborone. Talent already garnering attention for their participation includes 28 local athletes among them Letsile Tebogo, Isaac Makwala and Christine Botlogetswe just to mention a few, and international names such as three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce and American Sprint sensation Sh’carri Richardson.

“We are proud to welcome Orange Botswana on board as the Gold Sponsor,” said Tuelo Serufho, Chief Executive Officer for the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC).

This sponsorship is a testament to Orange Botswana’s commitment to the development of athletics in Botswana and the African continent. With their support, Mr. Glody Dube’s Golden Door Sport Agency working with all of us at MYSC, BNSC, BNOC and BAA we will be able to provide a world-class platform and experience for our athletes to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level. We are ever grateful for their contribution and look forward to a successful partnership.”
