The Orange Foundation once again sponsored the Special Needs Category of the 9th Annual Botswana Examination Council (BEC) Excellence Awards held on 24th August at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School, showing its commitment to promoting inclusion and access to education for people living with disability.

Orange Foundation awarded a total of six (6) excelling students with visual and hearing impairment in PSLE, JCE and BGCSE examinations. Each student received a laptop and Orange goodies. The laptops for the visually impaired students were installed with JAWS software, which converts written text into voice and reads out the information displayed in the screen through speakers or headphones. The software allows users with vision loss to navigate the computers and access learning materials with ease.

With this award, Orange Foundation seeks to help learners with special needs incorporate the use of technology and innovation in their studies, in the process empowering them to have equal access to education and socio-economic opportunities. The award is also intended to give special needs students confidence to help them integrate in to society and contribute to the country’s economic activities.

Orange Foundation has been sponsoring the Awards since inception 9 years ago because its believes that education is a responsibility that should be shared among parents, government and the private sector.

It was therefore determined to play a part in encouraging and stimulating competitiveness and high performance amongst the students.
