The Special Economic Zones Authority has announced the breaking of a new dawn for SEZA with signing ceremony of the P100 million Boulevard 1 Road contract awarded to Bothakga Burrow.
The project entails the detailed design, infrastructure development and construction of Boulevard 1 Road at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This will be the first step towards the development of the much hyped Airport City.
“The project will include construction of a 1.8 kilometre dual carriage way with five internal junctions and one live junction at Airport Road. Boulevard 1 Road will connect with Airport Road just next to DTCB. An entrance feature with a security post and high quality barriers will be built where the two roads meet. The entrance feature will also be styled to depict signature entrance into the SSKIA-SEZ,”said Thatayaone Ndzinge, Chief Executive Officer of the Special Economic Zones Authority(SEZA).
He said, “The project will also incorporate an urban design scheme for provision of underground services like water, waste water, surface water, fibre, power, lighting, smart city ducting and CCTV.”
Boulevard 1 Road is the gateway that will open access to a number of precincts in the SSKIA-SEZ, among them Edge City, Techno Hub, the Industrial precinct and Logistics.
Underground services will include water, wastewater, surface water, fibre, power, lighting, smart city ducting and CCTV. It will target investors in diamond beneficiation, automative components, aerospace and aviation, cargo, freight and logistics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, engineering and electronic equipment, plastixcs – injection moulding and agri processing.
SEZA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Thatayaone Ndzinge said they were happy that the project had been awarded to a citizen owned company. He urged the contractor to ensure the project is completed in time, within budget and to the expected standards of workmanship.
